I was at a toddler's birthday party. I was enjoying watching the kids play and then looked over to the serving table. It looked ok. I'd seen this kind of set up a few times before: character based, matching plates, cups, straws, party bags etc. And then it hit me. It was all rubbish. I mean yeah, it looked nice but it was literally all single use, about to go in the bin and then.... Another party would be set up for the afternoon EXACTLY THE SAME and ending up loading more rubbish into the bin. That just seemed madness to me.
I was also feeling lost after becoming a mum. I'd been creative all my life as a dancer, performer, movie maker, dance teacher, school teacher, sewer and then I'd had to put my creativity on the back burner when I became a mum. I'd try and do bits and pieces but there was little time for the creative me.
The idea started bubbling and growing.
My boost was talking to friends, family and also had the impending rubbish bin shrinkage from the council. So towards the end of 2021, I started to see if I could make a difference.
I love learning, I love creating and I love helping people. The Party Godmother was just what I needed in my life and has been helping families to create wonderful memories (and creating less waste too) ever since. How cool is that?!
I'm Sherie Hinga, The Party Godmother. I'm also a wife, mum, cat owner, relief teacher and a creative sort to boot.
